There's so much more to a career in horticulture than most people imagine.  You may not be aware of the exciting opportunities out there in this multi-billion dollar, rapidly growing industry.  New Zealand's a global leader in horticulture, and is highly respected all over the world.  It values clean and green.  And the good news is for young people, there is a demand for workers in all roles.

So where could a career in horticulture take you?  You could aim to be a field supervisor, own your own enterprise or become a marketer selling New Zealand-grown produce around the world.  Or picture yourself as a landscape designer, or in a lab working as a leading world researcher.  The range of career opportunities is huge and the pay is good!

As you know, horticulture is all about growing things - fruit and vegetables, flowers, trees, shrubs - but these days it's a very hi-tech and sophisticated business that involves much more than a shovel and watering can.

The growing is an art and science in itself, and that's just the beginning.  While this burgeoning industry needs skills in fruit, vegetable, flower and nursery production, it also needs business manangement, retail, postharvest, packaging, logistics, biotechnology, engineering, product development, landscaping, plant physiology, and arboriculture, to name just a few.
